Joe Mixon among 40 rookies to participate in NFLPA ‘premiere’

The NFL players union isn’t shying away from controversial Bengals draft pick Joe Mixon.

In fact, Mixon will be among 40 players expected to attend the NFLPA’s “Rookie Premiere” later this week in Los Angeles, the union announced Monday.

The Bengals’ selection of Mixon was roundly Cheap Jerseys NCAA criticized because he punched a woman in the face as a freshman at Oklahoma in 2014, breaking her jaw. Mixon, who recently settled a civil suit with the woman, was suspended for a year by the Sooners and, as part of a plea deal, was placed on probation for a year and required to complete 100 hours of community service.

Brandy Volquez, 25, got into an argument in a barber shop in the El Cafe de Herrera sector in Santo Domingo Oeste, according to Quisqueyanos En Los Deportes. Volquez, who leaves behind five children, died from multiple stab wounds. The fight also sent one of his alleged assailants to the hospital while another was detained by local police, according to CDN.

“I don’t think they were bad people,” Volquez said of his brother’s alleged killers. “(Brandy) had a family and it’s shameful what happened last night. I hope justice is served.”

Volquez’s father died from heart disease during the 2015 World Series at the age of 63. He left the Royals to attend his father’s funeral and then returned to pitch in Game 5 as Kansas City closed out the Mets to win the World Series for the first time since 1985.

Volquez signed a two-year deal with the Marlins in late November with the contract becoming official on Dec. 1.
